I need a large SCR... Stud, puck, module, anything. (tis for a coilgun)

PM me, or email me at **link**

We'll see how it goes from there. :)

Needs to be able to handle +600 volts, around say, 2kA pulse.

Believe the best I have is maybe 100A 1600V

That might do the trick for Inducktion,
even in a conservative design, if its datasheet can be found.

Look for a single-pulse current rating, and its measurement condition (pulse width and shape).
Within limits, the current can go higher if the time is reduced by the square of the current factor.
Some SCR data sheets give an I^2.T rating, in A^2.s, which applies to the time integral of I^2.
(occasionally, but I think wrongly, called the action integral).

Note that the force in an inductive disk launcher,
or a reluctance coilgun without magnetic saturation, is proportional to I^2.

I do agree, that sounds like it would work!

I'll try to remember to look this weekend and send you some part numbers of what I have available. I'm not too familiar with QCW. Does it specifically need to be an SCR?

An SCR is the best and most affordable option as a semiconductor switch in a coilgun. A really beefy IGBT would work too, but it would be considerably more expensive.

Haha, I was varying between a few posts. Forgot this was for a coil gun. I don't suppose a triac would do the job?

If the triac can handle the current values I stated above, then yes!

Edit;

So, I made my coil, and according to Barry's simulations, I should be getting a roughly 2kA pulse out of my coilgun, for a little under 8 mS.
