Do mots typically have more aluminum primaries than copper?

 		Yes, almost all MOTs are aluminum.
Reason - Cost.

You can buy a microwave oven at your local walmart for $50-100 bucks.

If the MOT was made out of copper winding, the copper itself would cost more than that.

Maybe. I haven't opened up a microwave oven in probably at least 10 years. That would make sense however.

 		Aluminum is used because it is cheap and light. The increase in resistance is negligible especially in the secondary of a step down or the primary of a step up transformer. The resistance will build up on the HV secondary due to the sheer length of the wire.

Almost all welders have aluminum windings. They look like copper at first due to the enamel.
