If anyone is interested, there are currently two Bertan variable voltage HV power supplies for sale on Ebay. The seller's Buy It Now price for each is $24.95 (plus $22.48 shipping cost), but the seller also has a "Make Offer" button, so you could offer less than that. One of them produces a positive voltage, and the other produces a negative voltage. They look rather dirty and a little dinged up, but if they work, you can get yourself a really nice HV power supply at a cheap price. I happen to have both of these same power supplies, and I've used them for many HV experiments over the past few years. You can't damage them by arcing!

Thanks for your post Xray, I bought both of those Bertan variable voltage HV power supplies after reading it. I was wondering if you knew where one could find an operator's manual, or a schematic for the 0312 and 0311 models. If you know, could you fill me in at your convenience? My friend and I are trying to figure out how to use their 7 pronged plugs (located to the right of the 115v/5A input plugs) to safely vary the voltage for an experiment involving lifting small objects with a negative static charge.
