Why are you even seriously entertaining the idea of it being real?
We cant disprove its real (because we dont have facts, data and stuff). we cant, shouldnt, and dont have to prove its fraud, the burden is on Rossi to prove its real.

Open mindedness is important in science, however not to the point where our brain falls out onto the floor.

That doesn't answer my question. It walks like a duck, it quacks like a duck ... it's an investment scam (possibly with a slightly schizophrenic inventor, who thinks if he just gets more money he can make it work for real).

There is bugger all about this to seriously entertain it as anything more ... anyone with some historical perspective on energy and compression research (the two fields overrun with scams) has to recognize all the hall marks, down to the second rank "independent" professors backing it up.

Without a doubt, I call fraud.

I have read several papers on this, including the patents, and it is bad "science" through and through. Even the independent "experts" who performed measurements on the device, failed to properly perform even basic high school science measurements of power in vs power out.

The "steam" escaping from the output hose of each device, has an order of magnitude less velocity than one would expect from a muti kilowatt device, and is what you would call poor/wet steam, i.e. it cant perform any real work, like running a turbine etc.
The steam escaping from the hoses in the videos, can easily be produced from the heaters in the apparatus.

There is also the distinct lack of gamma rays produced in the alleged reaction, as well as some confusion relating to the distribution of Copper isotopes allegedly produced. Even the patent, whilst claiming that various Copper and Zinc isotopes are produced, is unclear as to the distribution as the before and after graphs of the isotopic analysis are identical!

Either this is a scam, or the guy wants it to work so much, that he is seeing what he wants to see....

Its amazing to see the people and institutions having blind faith in this, one of which is our own Cambridge University! I guess everybody wants this too much.

Les

BTW, when I heard 1 MWatt I assumed they were actually going to run a turbine this time ... I was interested in how they were going to fake that, so I am slightly disappointed.

Because from Italy to Japan to Israel to the U.S., there are simply too many reports of anomalous "excess heat" in these so-called "cold fusion" experiments; and some of these reports are by some credible people, e.g., Mike McKubre at SRI.

Thus I have to assume it's possible (although not necessarily probable) that Rossi did stumble on to something. Time will tell. Unfortunately I'm not impressed with Rossi's personality.

these are two well said quotes, and these are most of the things he cant escape from....

Over-unity, free-energy and "stanley meyers fuel from water" are all the buzz words which are associated with the "energy-scam" market place... and rossi makes very similar claims from seemingly not very much.

also, to the point about rossi using the diesel generator instead of a turbine generator, i totally agree, disappointing seeing as how 470kw vs 1 megawatt could be expalined right there. he couldnt rent a big enough generator on sight to complete his probable fraud.

I see plenty of holes in the experiment that could mean it's a fake, but as everyone here has already expressed them, I chose to add my observations that support his claim.

It seems to me that his investors, who reportedly had their own engineers on site, are pleased. If a bunch of hobbiests/engineers on the internet can smell a scam from a mile away, don't you think that the investors would be the same way? In this economy there are not many people who would invest in something that didn't seem like a sure thing.

Many criticize that the investors are not known. It seems like the entire situation could have been purposely created. There is not much better of a way to interest the masses than to offer some new reason to cry out "scam!" By not divulging all of the details and documenting poorly, the internet (arguably the main way most young people get their information) is alive with talk of his experiment. Come the day when it turns out this is the real thing, his mysterious investors have now become the sole owners of this technology without having to keep the entire affair secret. They have received an enormous amount of advertisement the way of word of mouth while deterring any other serious investors to share the money with.

Those are my thoughts for now. I know that what I have presented is a conspiracy, but it was just for the sake of argument and to keep the sides even in this thread. Bring on the discussion! smile
