I was simulating a CW multiplier in NL5 and I noticed that the first capacitor seems to get exposed to AC while the rest get DC, I found this thread which says otherwise: http://4hv.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?110744.post Here is my schematic and my results, It is a voltage on each capacitor with respect to time graph.

The first capacitor sees ac current. Under normal operational conditions it should see a dc voltage with small ac ripple, but if the multiplier is badly designed or heavily loaded, the voltage on that cap can fall to a negative value.
