BTW Teravolt, do they sell replacement parts for those T-670 spark gaps? If so can you tell me how much is it for two new electrode pieces and for that plate in the middle?
I believe he meant UV-triggered spark gaps, where you use an intense pulse of UV radiation to ionize the gas in the spark gap in order to trigger it. Lower jitter, faster switching and so on... i bet he will explain tho :)

From the literature on the subject, some people apparently consider a trigatron type spark gap to function by way of "UV illumination" of the main gap; implying that the UV generated from the spark breakdown of the trigger gap illuminates the main gap, causing or contributing to breakdown. Thus my question.
And if not from the spark of a trigatron gap, where else would you expect get "an intense pulse of UV radiation"?

AFAIK, if a spark gap requires any kind of laser, the spark gap would generally be referred to as a "laser triggered" spark gap, rather than a "UV illuminated" (or "IR illuminated" or what have you).
BTW laser triggered ones I've seen bring the beam in through a hole in one of the electrodes and focus on the opposite electrode or on a point in between the electrodes. Apparently there's no need to make a "line".

The seller has dropped the price on these to $60. As of a few years ago, the price for a new one was something like $1350. These are a steal for $60, as they are in "like new" condition.
