Electricity supply companies like SSE are simply retailers of wholesale lots for which they have bid in the European electricity market. When you change supplier, the new firm doesn't come along and install its own cable to your house!
Most of the power supply infrastructure - pylons, cables, switching stations etc - is controlled by National Grid, though actual 'ownership' in the old fashioned sense of the term may be less clear. (e.g. National Grid may itself be a public-private consortium, for all I know!
Anyway, this kind of privatized industry thrives on the existence of contractors and sub-contractors, some of whom will have entered competitive tenders to dispose of National Grid's hazardous waste and recyclable materials. A typical deal would consist of a 'package' containing both hazardous waste - used transformer oil, for example - together with desirable items like non-ferrous scrap. The contractor must take legal responsibility for the costly, lawful disposal of the hazardous waste, in return for which the recyclable metal price is discounted.
So you are not likely to find a national grid transformer dumped off in a local rag and bone yard.

what should i say :P " im looking for potential transformers " or just go to one of their local scrap yards?
I can only guess, but probably your chances will be be better at a scrap yard, if you understand how business is often done in such places, and go with a good wad of cash.

hows the best way to approtch?
and hows the best way to bargen? XD
Just go in there and talk to them about what you are doing, scrap yard owners (smaller ones) are often interested in mechanical stuff and find Tesla coils interesting when you tell about them. I made good friends with a scrap yard owner in my city and I can get all sort of stuff there.
You can be sure that the price for an item is more than what they could sell it for scrap is, and if it contains copper it can be steep.
