gate drive transformers...

next step in building my drsstc is getting a good ferrite toroid for gate drive. i have been looking around, and it seems that i want 1000+ al, and a resonable cross sectional area. i still have a few questions though. if my Fres is ~500khz, and a company sells f<500khz and f>500khz what should i go with? and it would fall under signal transformers, corrrect?
edit: would it be a power, or a broadband?

Hi, I used an Epcos core for a DRSSTC running at about 120kHz, but I tested the GDT up to about 250kHz; look at this thread http://4hv.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?96935.0#post_96970, where you can find also the specific product codes.

so say i used fair-rite part # 5975011121... it has all the right specs(i think) but how do i know if it works at 500khz?

I have checked on Fair-rite site and it seems to me that the major characteristics of the core you have selected are quite similar to the Epcos core I chose for my GDT. Among the possible Fair-rite materials, I would choose the same (75), which is rated for broadband transfomers. My Epcos N30 material is also rated for broadband transformers and can be used at up to 5MHz. However I am not an expert and cannot give you a reliable advice.

I am just wondering about the core dimension you are considering: mine is 40mm external diameter and was more than enough to wind one primary and four secondaries with a wire much thicker than the UTP wire (although this last one is more commonly used to wind GDTs, I had some concerns about its capability to safely isolate from 230V mains power ...).

i plan to get 3-5 cores(1 large cross section, and a couple smaller ones). i dont realy need a large one, but the larger it is, the fewer turns it requires, so what the heck. as for the smaller ones, this drsstc is small enough that i am using secondary feedback which requires 200 or so turns of magnet wire center tapped.

in short, the size isnt realy an issue to me, just the specs for frequency, al, and core type.
