My newest handheld coil. Runs on 18V cordless tool battery, weighs about 7 kilos, and fires about 20" to ground, 14" or so fiery discharge otherwise. I run at about 200W because any more and it hurts a lot due arc backs. Soon I add music modulation when I get new LCDs in.

Does it feed the bridge directly with 18V, or are you boosting it first?

Is using a 3 phase BLDC motor as HVDC generator. The DC link runs about 240V with a fresh battery. Since it's a steampunk themed piece I decided not to go with a front end converter but rather a spinning gizmo instead. The circular saw also has the advantage of being an extremely rugged ABS chassis with nice ergonomics.

Great work Staci, creative and it works, nice.
The motor/generator bit is inspired!
Completely mad .. I love it.

I believe that there's a danger hazard if you arc to mains as the arc may conduct mains to you, so take care.

Thank you. I had often wondered about arcing to the mains knowing that the plasma is a reasonably good conductor. I recall a certain style of handheld tesla coil for medical use was notorious for just that but my knowledge of such is purely anecdotal.

At any rate, I'd certainly wish to avoid electrocution. Running entirely on batteries in a triple insulated chassis is nice especially nice for that reason. All I need to bring my freakshow on the road is a grounding cable and assortment of grounding fixtures.
