My guess would be preprogrammed timers set off by Cs clocks.

I was thinking more about it, you could also have a radio transmission set at the mid point. When each side receives the signal, send the particles. Of course this wouldn't be practical in the real world. More likely they had clocks synchronized such as Grenadier suggested.
I just can't wait till the results get replicated.

i guess they sent photons and neutrinos down the tube at the same time and the neutrinos arrived earlier. can anyone confirm that? if that was the scenario, then i think i came up with an explanation for the neutrinos arriving earlier.
