Interrupter Safety Settings

Hi all, I made a Polyphonic MIDI Interrupter with an FPGA.

I used four PWM Channels with OR-ed outputs. It worked very good, and gaves me a nice audio quality.
Also, I limit the tOn for 180us and 5% of the total period (calculed at realtime, so no delay at notes)...

It worked very good like you can see in that video:


But I'm considering safety settings for that, I'm using a or-ed output that gets a too high duty cycle (see on that video the scope measures the primary current) and I got about 18A from the 220VAC mains. My peak primary current is max at 310A at GS (about 250A at air arcs) and I'm using a FullBridge of IRG4PC50UD.

I blowed a variac (ok, I was abusing from it, 18A on a 5A Variac):


I gonna present the coil for one week in my school, so I thinking about something that can run for all the week (it will not be turned on all the day, but it will be for more time that I tested here)...

Thinking about reducing the Duty Cycle from 5% to 2.5% and the max tOn for 100us. Is there anything else that I can do?
