the copper chloride solution works great. etched a 3oz copper single sided test board (with polystyrene as my etch resist) in a dish with a magnetic stirrer. took several hours to finally get through the thick copper, but there was zero damage under the resist so that's good. I'm also looking in to other resist coatings (got 5 samples going overnight) as well as using sonication to aid in the removal of copper.
