Have you ever had something die in a nonsensical surprise way? Computers, toasters, tvs etc? It drives me crazy when something breaks because of a cut corner or lack of foresight.
For example my 1995 projector TV died on me in a very loud and blue smokey way today. A jumper on the ground traces passed so close to an inductor on the SMPS that with a little dust and humidity it arced over and left a big fat carbon scorch on the board. I am going to try to de-solder the inductor and find a replacement but if it had not been touching the jumper this probably wouldn't have happened at all. :/
So what appliances, test equipment, cars have you had fail because of corner cutting or just plain short sightedness?
