Ummm no they are not really that great for a DRSSTC.

First off the are incredibly slow, you would probably only get maybe 20KHz out of them if that. Also the Ve(sat) is 4V angry That 4v means very high conduction losses in a DRSSTC at 500A that's 2Kw of heat you have to get rid of and that's only conduction losses. And last they are not really that high of a current, 60n60s beat them on speed, Ve(sat) and come very close on current.

Well you could make a lower frequency resonant driver with them, if you kept the frequency and current low. Could be used to drive a medium sized transformer or something like that.

I say go for it!

Get a 20 cm diameter form and some 0.2mm wire and get yourself a low resonant frequency coil, fairly small as your sparks will not be that big.

Use a small MMC, something no bigger than 100nF

Run long on times and low current, should give you some sparks.

It might not be the biggest, badest or best DRSSTC, but you gave it a try despite the odds :)

I wish I knew how to build a DRSSTC. I am stuck with a half-working SGTC. XD when you build yours, be sure to post a video!

heh i might try and build one with some mosfets and some genius idea im going to dream up

im thinking of fullwave transformer almost using large capacitors charging and discarging in a order

I agree with Mads now that he mentioned it, although they are not really optimal and will be really lossy you could probably still get a couple feet out of them.
Just keep that fres LOW like <30KHz and you will probably be ok. A high tank impedance will do wonders for you conduction losses as well.
