I thought that Solyndra would be one of the few green corps to make it. Im beginning to think this "green job" thing isnt worth a dam. I know people who work there, they were given no warning of a rough time ahead, severance or anything. Came to work, got layed off. Spain is also having problems in the "green" sector.

Supposedly theyll reorganize, but ive heard all this before. Once you F**k up with 1.6 Billion USD, the rest of the banks and VC'ers disappear real quick.

It's depressing.

When the economy was on the way up, everyone had standing orders for billions. Then suddenly the economy goes downhill and all the orders evaporated and the prices dropped. Now the prices are so low that it does not even cover production cost. In the meantime factories in asia have been ramping up to the point that the price will never rise back to the old level. So every factory of this type that is not extremely efficient is in trouble,

This is all good news for people that buy solar cells.

Pennies-per-watt seems to be the practical market price. Many of the American makers were operating at the dollar-per-watt level. With selling price at about 4 times the cost of manufacture, the China vs American question clearly favors the Chinese and standard flat cells.

Obama really looks like a fool on this one. the research and developement cost is absorbed here in the US, while the Chinese steal it, copy it, then subsidise it to the point we Americans have none of the profit, none of the product and all of the cost.

We Americans have really outsmarted our selves on this one.

Steal it? They are beating "us" with age old poly-si tech ... the problem with Solyndra and so many others is that none of them had any real game changing technology to begin with.
