I found these nice little IGBT modules on eBay.

Data sheet:

I plan on using them in a small full-bridge DRSSTC. Has anyone used these before, and how did they fair in Tesla Coil duty?

Also, I was wondering about gate protection? Should I use anything other than the gate resistor?
Thoughts, comments before I blow them up...:-D

Pulldown and zener on the gates should protect them fine during driving.

Those are fast little IGBTs! Ive seen them used in the QCW before with great results.

About gate protection:
If you are driving with a GDT you should have some sort of TVS or zener from gate to emitter to protect against voltages spikes cased by the leakage L in the GDT.

If you are using a dedicated Si driver then the TVS or zeners are not really needed, but a 10k pulldown resistor from gate to emitter is very important to have! The reason for this is if your driver circuity losses power while the gate is on the gate can "latch" on because of the parasitic SCR present in IGBTs. The pull down is there to shut the gate off in the event that the gate driver losses power.

Hope this helps,
Eric

Would these IGBT's--> HGTG30N60B3D be any good of a SSTC?

Yes, these would be fine. I would run them at 400VDC.
