I just got 2 complete computers (monitors and everything) plus a TV from my church. All working. And then I helped a guy put in a concrete walkway/garage and got a very nice workstation with a 3ghz dual core processor on top of $10/hour pay :D

I got a 200W stereo amplifier w/graphic eq, radio & tape deck, 2 large 100W speakers with 9" woofers, 2.5" tweeters & 4" mids, a 6 channel analog mixer (1976!), and the best free item has to be the Korg MS2000R synthesizer that my friend is letting me "borrow indefinitely."
I got a 9/60 NST and some HV caps from Chris (coolest guy everrr), i got my hands on a big ol surround sound amplifier that seemed brand new, but the speaker outputs didn't work (got some really nice fets and a huge transformer out of it). I got access to a power companies "bone yard" where i got some really nice 6", 4.5" and 2.5 inch electrical conduit along with 50 feet of 1.25" shielded flexible electrical conduit.
I've been pretty fortunate :)

That is really good Andy! I got a home theater system and dvd player from a company because I asked for it. Brand new, off the shelf. I didn't even have to pay for shipping!

Pile of graphic equaliser VFDs, just the thing for DIY spectrum analyser which fits in a small case.

Apparently variacs are usually rated in 'Amps', so I'm told. You mean a 20 Amp variac? That's pretty big.

the variac weighs about 40Kg too wound on a huge iron power core or something

I got a 40" LCD TV for free as it was broken, repaired it by replacing 3 bad capacitors and works fine: Link2
