How about printing directly on copper clad, followed by a standard etch?
That sounds good, but how do you get the copper clad through the printer?

I have 5 printers lying around, maybe i'll do some experimentation. Any suggestions on what to try first?

PCBs aren't flexible, so you'll probably have to cut a hole in the back of the printer for it to fit in there. You also might need to separate the rollers a bit.

Does anyone know if the typical toner youlll be using is water resistant? HCL or FC are both aqueous.

--Will the deposited toner be thick enough to be useful?
--Is it possible to use a laser printer with melted toner powder?

You can't use a laser printer, since the copper clad is conductive wink

It shouldn't be that bad to modify an inkjet to do the job, although getting a thick enough layer of ink to survive the etch process might be tricky. And all inkjet ink is very water not soluble, at least after it has dried--just ask anyone who has had to deal with a leaky ink cartridge!

Hi Peter,

Why would conductivity be a problem here? Not from what I know of laser printers, as it's the green roller that gets point-charged and then deposits the toner to paper, or pcb.
