That IGBT is perfectly fine, easy to drive, fast and a decent pulse current rating.
New parts do look superior on paper compared to older parts, but often were older parts made much sturdier as the technology did not give them the opportunity to build so close to the data sheet specifications.

Well, Forty, I did ask myself the same question of all TO-247 just like the IRG40PC50 which apparently can push a few hundreds Amps without vaporising their legs. Good job it's pulsed current I think. Well, I did think these would make fine IGBTs for a TC, and I really appreciate you guys taking the time to look at it. I'll tell you how it performs once my DRSSTC is built in a few weeks.
