I have a bunch of small and larger 'E' core ferrite transformers pulled from various moderate sized power supply's and wish to put my own windings on the bobbins.

What ways are there to seperate the 2 part core without damaging it? Are there heating or solvent methods?

Heat works, but will damage the bobbins if you are not very very careful.

Soaking the entire transformer in acetone will dissolve the lacquer

For me has worked well to place the transformers in a can with water and boil it for 20 minutes. After boiling, many adhesives are released.
Best regards

Can high heat (As in a small torch on its lowest setting) cause permanent property changes of the ferrite? Is the curie temp significant in cosideration for this purpose?

I clean my cores of plastic and copper via hack saw and disc samder/grinder, then im left with what you see at the bottom of the next pic, a core which has been epoxied with strong, hard, black stuff. I'd really like to seperate them, i tried using a diamond tile saw, but that eats 0.1 inches of window length due to kerf. It also doesnt leave the faces really flat.

Depends on how the top of the E holds the core or blades. I had great success with a press applied to the edge of the top piece for an assymetric core The varnish just gave way in a clean fashion. Otherwise with intermeshed cores small tapping with a hammer would eventually dislodge the assembly. The varnish is brittle and turns into a fine powder on multiple impacts and shocks. The winding was then just extracted intact. Worked for me several times. Some cases needed a rasor blade as a wedge too. Some others the core just broke..... depends a lot on the construction geometry and the type of glue used. If you do not care about the winding the solutions above may be safer to keep the ferrite parts. Good luck.

My attempts to heat-gun the cores at 400C yielded several broken cores :(

boiling in water or soaking in acetone will also leave you with reusable wire and bobbins.

I value the ferrite way more than the bobbin or copper.
