Hey everyone, am I able to use something else besides the optical receiver for the interrupter? I ask cause I have no way of using the optical receiver for the interrupter, as I don't have an optical transmitter...

Optical transmitters are just LEDs...

But remember that investing in some opto's might prove to be a good idea, it provides perfect isolation between your Tesla coil and whatever interrupter, midi board, computer etc. you have in the other end.

I wish I could build a DRSSTC... All I can build is a SGTC, and even that, it's an issue of getting it to work, and getting capacitors. But I will not give up! People had said that they took 3 years to build their first coil! So I WILL! I WILL get it to work! And I will be able to build a DRSSTC in a few years! Well, at least a SSTC... but good luck with your interrupter. Hopefully you won't need three years to build your coil, or hopefully money isn't an issue.

The optical TX and RX units are very easy to get and are not all that expensive. I would go as far to say that it's almost required that you use them for a DRSSTC. If you don't you will most likely have noise issues.

TX unit - OPF1412T
RX unit - OPF2412T

you can buy both here:

TX - Link2
RX - Link2

The IF-E96 (Transmitter) and IF-D95OC (Receiver) also work well, and cost much less (Digikey FB128-ND and FB124-ND). They are TTL out , and don't require connectors on the fiber which is convenient.

I also use these and recommend them, just be aware of different polarity of some opto receivers when compared to f.ex. Steve Ward schematics.

plastic fiber optics also work and are cheaper. like the hfbr-15xx and hfbr-25xx series. a good place to get them is jameco electronics

I have been using these types for 6 years without anything but success, on DRSSTC, SISG and T_BRISG and VDG.
I usually use the IF-D95T, which is TTL out.

The IF-D95OC, however, has an open collector output and can therefore be pulled either up or down.
