Grenadier, of course I don't expect the screen to be shining with great brightness and contrast of the final picture (I've tried to make x-rays formerly, with tubes like DY86, heated 6BC-1s and alike, with a long-exposure 5-10sec photo, and never got anything good). However in this case when a real tube is used, I've expected at least something "real time", like a fluoroscope, or so. My screens are of the "Corinex Rapid" brand, year 1996 or so, sensitivity 800. They were always enclosed in a cassette and now they're a little brownish in color, but I hope they didn't age or lose their x-ray intensifying layer (I dunno if this could be possible at all).
But I think we are all right on the voltage drop. I'm currently re-working my ZVS driver for two DST flybacks with their secondaries in series. I still have an AC flyback lying around here somewhere, however it would be more difficult to get parts for a good high voltage multiplier, then dipping it in hot paraffin and alll that stuff to prevent corona and/or arcovers... (If the two flyback thing succeeds I'll submerge them in oil, it would be easier no-doubt than messing with multipliers).
If you have any objections or hints to the twin DST ZVS setup, then please feel free and post them here. :)

In some of my tests, several rectifier tubes have been "abused" to make them emit x-rays. The best choice seems to be the Russian 2x2, although some DY86's emit enough radiation to make a fluorescent screen glow, on 15sec exposure pictures:

Nice pictures man. I had never luck with rectifier tubes and I've built many high votlage supplies. Never attempted to multiply a ZVS-driven AC flyback though, thats for sure.
Hope this twin flyback thing works... will work on it the next days.
