LOL now when my mom tells me I'm spending too much money on electrical stuff, I can say: "At least I am not trying to split atoms in the kitchen."

heres the blog Link2

Acording to this Link2 danish (sorry) article (that is also where I found the link to the blog), the swedish say that he did not have enough material to endanger anybody, and that they failed to measure any signs of activity outside his building.

So why arrest him if he does not cause danger to anybody confused

From what I gather the 96% sulfuric acid was much nastier than the radioactive stuff.

Yeah, doesen't bode well for us amateur fusioneers.

"OMG its RADIOACTIVE"... Yes, so is potassium. You don't go putting bananas in lead boxes do you.

In fact, even a well built fusor running in a moderately good (i.e. refrigerator + ebay turbopump) vacuum isn't likely to put out more than maybe 10 neutrons a minute.
Yes X-rays can be a concern which is why if you know what you are doing, you have a dosimeter, Geiger AND a wearable dosimeter and send it off every month to get its accumulated readings documented.
If nothing else it makes interesting research, as people's radiation exposure can change with altitude and location.
Case in point, A place over here has approx 2* normal background as measured by my Bull Electrical meter.

I'm pretty certain some amateurs have got up to ~10^8 neutrons/second, and 10^6 isn't uncommon. These are still pretty low dose rates, when you take into account the inverse square law and the fact that most fusor runs are only a few minutes long, due to grid heating, etc., though.

EDIT: And these tend to have some sheilding as well, but this is mainly required for the X-rays.

Heh, didn't realise 10^6 was common.

Thats still not that high, although the detection efficiency of the typical (cheap) polycarbonate CD blank+scintillator detectors is not very good.

Wonder if anyone's attempted to make an LDX yet?
