These guys are pretty lazy. Buy a capacitor, claim it as perfect pfc, sell it for $350. How does this still happen?

Main claim is that the power factor of your household loads are very low and this thing will decrease power consumption by up to 40%.

Can someone just DDOS this site please.

Improving power factor can increase efficiency. But for residential loads consumers are typically only billed for real power delivered, not reactive power, so PFC will not do anything for the actual bill.

Plus every page on their website sounds like a scam rife with unsubstantiated claims.

That one is even worse! Read the description on how it works, I can't believe people fall for this garbage.

The power savers do, in fact work. I tested a couple when they came out
years ago, marketed as "green plug"

But they only make sense where electricty is very costly i.e. communities
served exclusively by diesel electric plants.

They work on motor loads by electronically bringing the power factor to close to
100%. Back then a washing machine or fridge an effeciency of at best 70%
with the induction motor. This translated into a PF of about 80 %. By bringing the
PF to 100 %, line amps dropped, and voltage to the appliance increased reducing
motor amps and reducing heat loss. An induction motor, at a constant horsepower
output, draws more current at lower than rated terminal voltage.

The heat loss in all the wiring from the load side of the utility meter to the appliance
is paid by the customer.

They were supported by our Provincial utility, and the gadget paid back the $40. odd
price in about 5 years if I recall. When this new computer is working well. I'll post the
docs and perhaps a photo of the thing.

Trying to use a capacitor in a home application can lead to unexpected trouble. You
dont want vars running around you home wiring, especially with the modern SMPS
loads.

The website in the original post fails to load and the commercial for the "Ampilizer" contains "special" effects that literally use the stock, preloaded emitters from Particle Illusion. How does this kind of thing even exist!?

Link looks down. Interesting comment here:

Wonder if this is the same unit:

Ha: found them back on the internet archive site:

$350 is steep for a capacitor in a box. Can see the reason with large inductive loads in industry but but modern home motors are better designed now. Also what would be the effect on the rest of the house in the event of a spike or transient? In particular with all the electronics floating around these days....
Here is another one:
