Um.. this is guaranteed to scare the hell out people.
Just have the legs hidden inside the doll body and a small kinetic mechanism
to eject the headcrawler, which then runs around screaming until it goes dormant.
The 'bot then goes back to base and clamps down using magnets then recharges.

Adding a few hideous voice samples would also be fairly nasty.
