I like the LM723 adjustable V regulator (14 pin dip), even though its pretty old its still useful.

Im also looking for a current control mode IC for a two transistor push pull driven transformer. the typical voltage control mode wont work for this application. Im searching Mouser right now.

L200 is a very versatile current regulator which can be used in all sorts of interesting permutations, boosted with a pass transistor, and so on.

Im l;ooking at the datasheet right now...
Im thinking of using one of these two, But they both have that "soft sart" feature. Im not sure thats a good idea for my application running my transformer so near saturation.
