yay I order an box load of cheap stuff from China last month and now its here!

bough four 50A SCRs that can handle 500A surge for 10ms, that should be enough for my coil gun project. = $5.15
200w SMPS for arc lamps + a 200w arc lamp (prabably got mercury in it) = $30
badass jet lighter that can a blow 4" flame = $7.50
50w HID flashlight w/11.1v 7800mAh li-on battery = $128.79
a box of 200 piece 1N5408 rectrifier diodes = $3.33

20110719224923343
looks quite beefy

20110719224903735
200w SMPS for the arc lamp

20110719224609349

too bad I didnt see this 0-30v 7.5A DC-DC converter last month, could have bought that but didnt know about it back then.
check out this beast Link2
if you can't read the chinese, (luckly I still can) it says its got
-adjustable voltage & current regulation (<0.7ms reaction time for voltage <0.4ms for current)
-buck-converter style DC-DC conversion with 96% efficientcy
-12v to 50v input (9v cutoff)
-less than 50mV peak-peak ripple under 30v 7A load!!!
this is gonna make a beefy lab PSU. for $49 chinese, THAT ONLY $7.59 USD!!!!1 what a steal

can't order anything till next month sad o well I can always wait for that.

I've bought all sorts of bits and pieces from China over the years, and have never had any reason for complaint. Besides, most of the world's manufacture of electronic components is now done in China, so it makes sense to go the source, rather than buy the same part for much more from middle men outside China.

I've bought some stuff off it before for work. Just email the seller and ask if you can order a few samples.
