Hi all. Reading about the recent action taken in Egypt, and other Middle Eastern countries to control or shut down the Internet makes me wonder if 4HV needs to have a secure backup in the event (heaven forbid) the USA decides to follow suit.
My suggestion is for everyone who has engineering/HV/web saves/etc content that s/he doesen't want to lose encrypts it and adds it to a pendrive and sends it to the next person on the list via mail. Who then backs up said files to physical media (i.e. DVDR or microSD etc) and then stores it in a secure location, adds their stuff and sends it on its merry way. At the same time they can also add public content that would be handy for 4HV'ers such as schematics etc.
The advantage of a system like this is that any content submitted to the "OmegaBox" is as secure as the encryption used, and anyone who has a copy of the disk cannot decode anything on it but does physically have the files in the event the Net goes down due to political reasons/natural disaster/etc.
Obviously adding a copy of the current 4HV archives including all the edit history would be a good idea, there's a lot of valuable content here that is currently only in one physical location.

Probably looking at under a gigabyte, all the images etc on every thread can't be that big.
Something like MAFF would be the best bet, as it faithfully saves the page even with javascript etc intact but in a "neutered" i.e. safe form so it can't get up to any mischief if opened.
