I am planing to build my first solid state coil, and wanted to ask some questions. Probably something along the lines of Steve wards SSTC5. I was reading and wanted to ask about the antenna placement. Is there any special consideration I must take or is it "just placed there". Any phasing considerations I must take, or any other thing to consider?
2'nd point: I haven't been able to find a suitable ferrite core for the gate drive transformer. Is there any foreseeable problem with using a gate drive chip (I've found IR2110). I know I will lack isolation and I will need to introduce the starting circuit, since this is provided by the inverting driver (that I couldn't obtain, no UCC line over here)
If possible, I'd like to obtain all locally, as importing is expensive(and a bit slow) here on Panama. I haven't provided many details as I'm still deciding on factors. Any other tips I should consider for my first SSTC?

Not sure if on purpose, but it is going to drive Mosfets, not transistors. something along the lines of IRFP260. Nevertheless, I am a bit worried about the frequency. Do you think this could be a problem?
If not, I have heard one can use the transformers (EI) from computer power supplies, but all I have seen are glued together. Do these transformers work? If so, how do you split them apart without breaking them? (Tried once, broke it)
Again, any special considerations or tips about the antenna?

a mosfet is a just a special type of transistor. ferrite toroids should be very easy to find. crt monitors, TVs, computers and their power supplies, audio equipment, etc. will all likely have them. look for bundles of wires twisted through them.

The powdered iron ones are painted blue/white or yellow/white. Look for the black ones. The first good one I found that worked came from a CRT monitor.
