I bought a rotary vane backing pump for £20 and a diffusion pump for £50....don't give up. (they were both Edwards, but I'd suggest Welch belt drive and Veeco in your 'neck of the woods')

Well, i found out it was the switch. Even if i tried, i could not make a switch that failed after like 5 on/off cycles -_-. See this video . You can see be wailing on the switch at the beginning... Once i got it working that time i left the switch on and i am using on of the switches in my switch box instead.
