I agree regarding the use of a flycutter. However the use of a drill press is essential, and the work must be firmly clamped. Flycutters are wonderful things- infinitely adjustable and easy to sharpen.

What kind of tool bits does a flycutter use?

The one down side I see is that there's no drill bit to guide the cutter. I imagine you'd get more accurate placement (with a drill press at least) by first drilling a small pilot hole right where you want it.

The cutting bit is usually high speed steel, and is adjustable vertically. Hole diameter is adjusted be setting the horizontal bar.
Yes, it runs out of balance, but its fine if you keep the speed low.

yay! a pic of a flycutter, i got hit in the chest by the horizontal part once, i since check the horizontal part carefully before each use now!
(you see in the above pic the small cylinider protruding downward, that part must be present in adition to the normal set screw)
