On the previous forum I described my magneforming setup.
The previous recipe in essence:
Take one cap bank (210uF 20kV 16kJ rated).
Attach to a 4 1/2 turn helical coil.
Add in order to top of coil, a layer of plastic insulation, aluminium sheet from old component case, mini spanner (8cm) and a block of wood held down by many turns of nylon cord.
Remove children and animals
Charge to 4.5kV (2kJ) (mild setting)
Pull firing cord. Cook for several milliseconds only.
Serve hot.
The effect on the spanner is shown nicely down to fine detail of the printing.

Now to body parts. The setup is with a larger flat coil made of Litz wire from a kitchen benchtop induction cooker. There is an insulating sheet then some copper foil then my hand.

So, questions. What happens, at what energies and what is the limiting factor?
Please note that this is an experiment that I graded up from very low energy levels to sort out what happens to keep safe. I am at the moment I am typing comfortably with both hands....

Peter

I say that you get mild deformation of the foil such that a slight imprint of your hand can bee seen on the foil, at about .5kj with the limiting factor being how hot you get that copper foil before it gets uncomfortable to touch shades

A reasonable assessment. However I have spent the last 20 years in Zen meditation to increase my pain tolerance neutral

Here is the result at 1.75kJ (4kV). The foil at this stage is starting to tear. It also is becoming hot enough to discolour with oxidation. To counter this I had been wetting my hand and the areas of good contact did not heat to the point of oxidation, nevertheless, it was hot and I had very superficial epidermal scorching on a couple of fingers which was just visible. Nothing to see now in the cause of science though but this is probably the limit unless there is a thermal barrier such as a glove.
The pulse sensation is like a soft slap. It is only foil after all.

Any suggestions for other tricks with the foil?

Peter

maybe an egg could be placed on the foil. How far does the foil get pushed up? Maybe it would wrap the egg, but that's a bit of a long shot.

Now thats a nice pancake coil.

question: say you forgot to take off your ring.
and you put your hand on the coil, FIRE.
assume the ring is 90degree to the coil,
it won't induce anything, right?

I don't have any rings but if it is perpendicular to the field then it will not have any current.
In my can crushing page I have a sheet of aluminium that is at right angles and has almost no effect as below. It would have been crushed markedly if it was flat.

I have an aversion to eggs but good thought. Unfortunately the foil tends to wrinkle under power unlike a thicker sheet.
