This tube coil has been in a constant state of change so i will give the current specs as well as a video that shows it a few days ago.

Tube.... 3cx10000a3
Secondary coil.... 4.5 inch diameter wound with 20 gauge wire to 30 inches
Primary Coil ..... 12.5" diameter space wound with 12 gauge wire and taped on about the 35th turn
primary capacitor .. 270 pf or .00027 uf
Power source........ 7200v 10KVA pole transformer
Resonant frequency.... 360 kh
Max power.......... 25 KVA
Max spark length ..... 40"
Grid resistor............ 4000 ohms
Grid Capacitor......... 650 pf

Hello,
Great work on the coil. I have seen your Youtube video and discussing it with friends, we think you might be losing a lot of reactive power on the doubler caps and that the secondary is probably getting less than 10 kW input. If you want to decrease current draw from the wall, try using a lower voltage transformer and bigger capacitance in the doubler. Or re-tune the primary for more loaded impedance / raise the secondary. Just some thoughts...

I had to do away with the voltage doubler for now , It has been burning up too many diodes. Right now I am running directly off the pig into the plate capacitor so the output is down some from what it was in the video.

Also I have gone to a higher frequency secondary coil and re-tuned for that.

Use vacuum diodes (as the de-quing diodes from your power source from the DC SGTC), they would not fail. Lowering the voltage input, the sparks are shorter, even they are more sword-like type. Try increasing the primary capacitor, you have a lot of charging current from that beast xfrm. That would allow you to use lower primary turns and get more potential from Ns/Np ratio.

Hi Vesa, using my De Qing diode would be possible but I think I'm going to rig up a low pass filter to protect the diodes like Dr Spark has on Quadzilla.

As for efficiency, Yes there are lots of things left for me to try.

I got the voltage doubler working again on the power supply to my tube coil. With 160 volts feeding the pig I am getting 47 inch sparks at about 30 KVA input power. I'm going to keep the voltage down a little on till I can get my tickler coil protected better.

if your tickler coil was at the bottom of your 6" tube would it make any difference in performance. I was wondering if it may be able to just wrap the tickler at the bottom of the secondary on the same tube. you probably have seen this video if big VTTC on YouTube

and he has his tickler at the bottom of his primary far away from the secondary

Yes, having the tickler coil below the primary might be worth investigating. Dr Spark says he has change Quadzilla over to operate that way. In the video you are referring to, that guys coil resonates at 110 KC so what works for him might not work out on my coil which resonates at 360 KC.

I could make my coil like his but can you imagine winding a 6" diameter coil form with #30 gauge wire. Also I would have to get a much bigger primary capacitor and my sparks would be fatter and bushier.
