a while ago i took apart a microwave turntable motor and never put it back together. inside was just a coil of wire on a thin bobbin. today i was looking at it and realized the hole in the middle would fit over a primary winding on a flyback. so i rigged it up real quick and to my surprise it worked. the voltage seems only on the order of 1kv with a 12v zvs powering it, but the current was impressive. the two tabs that are usually the inputs for the motor are still connected to the coil, so i put a screwdriver across them to test the output. the arc could be drawn out over an inch and could sustain itself across the terminals if started. I think a bunch of these coils could be stacked up to make a pretty decent secondary. the bobbin could be rewound with more turns too, as it is only about half full initially. just an idea for the scavengers like myself. enjoy.
edit: also, with no arc being drawn from it, there are no visual or audible signs of internal arcing or corona.
edit: based on a survey size of 2, the bobbins are almost identical from one motor to the next, but the wire size varies greatly. second one arced over. upon unwinding it... an hour later... i found that it had several thousand turns. will reuse the bobbin though.
