Today I felt ballsy enough to short out one of my batteries, this time with about 75% charge on it. Let's just say that C&D technologies wasn't lying when they said the thing has an impedance of 0.00208 ohms!
I wish I had enough 4 gauge wire to put another one in parallel, but even this is impressive by my standards. Heh, imagine what 50 of these things in series could do! If somebody would like to donate $12,500 we could find out...

That looks quite fun, though I admit still a little bit sceptical that it is actually 5000A, Which is really a lot, would have thought the cables would have heated up a bit too if it were, but a good many hundreds of amps for sure, is there any way to measure it ?

The cables got toasty!
When short circuited 5kA would flow (cable, switch and battery impedance taken into account), but I'd imagine that the nail is limiting current somewhat. It's anyone's guess as to what is flowing.

I think 5kA would have welded that switch together... or at least gotten too hot to touch with your bare hand. Perhaps a few hundred amps at first, but dropping much lower as the resistance rose due to heating.
Pretty scary, nonetheless. Good setup for testing your buss structures. ;)

Do your roofs fall off? The reason I ask is that the nail looks (judging from the sparks) to have been made from steel. My roof was recently re tiled and they used copper nails (as the original builders had) because it's a damned nuisance when they go rusty and fail.
