Well today was big garbage day, and I picked quite a haul!

For one, I destroyed 9 televisions, garbagemen will have a fun time there in the morn. The haul from those consisted of 9 Boards and a whole bunch of speakers.

Also took an LCD apart, seems like the thing was hit with a wiimote. The haul from that included some nice CCFLs and a 24V SMPS. I can't figure out how to turn on the inverter board for the CCFLs though. :-/

Also found what looks to be a cable descrabler. I don't receive basic cable though so I have no way to test this. Also found (not pictured) an NES, a DVD player, an air conditioner (sadly the compressor wasn't good at pulling vacuums) and a couple DTV boxes.

So I feel accomplished today, time to relax with a beer next to a DIY tiki torch and listen to supertramp last.fm.

So the point of this thread is, what were some of your memorable big garbage day hauls?

Wow, that's pretty good! 2 months ago somebody tossed out a nice microwave, but rather than destroying it I decided to keep it for microwaving random objects.

My favorite haul was two 100Ah AGM batteries. This one: Link2 They can supply 5kA shorted, and are rated for 800A continuous. And best of all, they still hold a nice charge. smile

I can melt a screwdriver with a "dead" battery!

Same for me about a week ago, but then I decided to just fix/clean it up and use it to cook things.. Works a treat ha ha

Sounds like a good score with those batteries though!

At a price of $250 each I'd say so!

Nice haul of speakers. Learn what a "pignose" is for guitarists
and put some together using those speakers. If you craft good
casements and the audio is clean and runs on D cells you will
make a good dollar selling them. Use the sound section parts from
the TVs.

These days musicians are recrafting old tube radios for that purpose.

I think that PS pic, (the one with the cat) is for ViewSonics flat screen Tv's like mine. They have a defect in the current capacity of the main filter caps. But you can fix it.

PS. That cat has a "What the hell are you doing?" look on its face.

On the ccfl driver chip, pull the enable pin either up or down, check the datasheet for the ic. But this will override the current control so dont run it for too long :)

There is no driver chip, it's all descrete transistors, comparators, capacitors and one unidentified MCU.

I just took all the transformers off. I'll // their primaries and build an oscillator for them sometime in the future. But what can one do with 16 lamps?
