Looking for an ignitron datasheet

I've found a few of these ignitrons but wasn't able to find any information on them.


1306410666 639 FT1630 004


Does anyone have the data sheet or any information on these. I'm planning to use them as a switch in pulse capacitor bank.

Va = 20 kV. Vtrig = 1.5 kV.

You'll notice that the NASA invention uses a General Electric ignitron type GL 7703, whilst yours is the Westinghouse version, WL 7703.

Interestingly, in true 4HV style, the NASA team are determined to over-volt their ignitrons at 30 kV, 10 kV above
the manufacturers Vmax 20 kV rating

Thanks a lot. Already have dedicated triggering psu's for them and about 12 of these devices. Seems they are of use for my application.

Found out a few of them are destroyed can hear the parts of the rattling. Doesn't sound like just the mercury in the others frown

But you could still go ahead and make your own triggered gaps now that you've started to think about it.

Luckily I do have 8 ignitrons that are in good shape. They measure fine and are able to strike an arc when triggered. Using them would be less of a hassle then building my own triggered sparkgap. I'll be using them at a relatively low voltage for normal sparkgaps. Only way to make a proper triggered gap is to use multiple segments which greatly adds to the design complexity.

Thinking of them they are amazing devices especially for the time that they where used in. Would like to put them to good use again. Seems a shame not to use them.
