too bad radioshack sucks...
Ah, but a perfect chance for some perfboards. The only thing they sell at a decent price.
The only thing they sell that isn't low quality. actually, I take that back, I bought one once and the ink pattern on one side didn't match the copper on the other side. All radioshack cares about nowadays is selling phones and radios and playing crappy music.

I heard that from an Employee! And this one worked there for as long as I can remember (back to when the electronics part catalog as a little heavy for my very small self haha). but they do stock some other parts at a reasonable, though not the cheapest, price. With the added free shipping these might be worth it: Parallax Ping, RFID Reader (if they still have them, a store nearby was liquidating them for $10), some project enclosures, or, my personal favorite, the Military Safety covered Switches (with the Red LED and translucent cover. That last item is the only thing there that I have seen BELOW the cost at a surplus store where I get almost all of my parts!
The shacks near Dallas have gotten better over the past two years. They've also started to re-brand themselves as "the shack" which if they don't step it up more might mean trouble from the Ham population
Also, they only recently stopped carrying (ie you might still find one in stores) a VERY good 2-meter Mobile Radio. I forget the wattage (though it was at least 20W IIRC) but it has an incredibly small footprint (could actually fir it in my short's side pocket) and great build quality.
Alas, they're still not near where they used to be. They've gotten a little better, but for now I may just get more of those switches for projects!
