Has anyone used this software package? Is it good? What's the difference between it and Final Cut?

I have used it, its a very versatile HD video editing program and you can use it to create some incredible effects. Never used final cut so I cannot offer a comparison, however I would still highly recommend this program.

After Effects is a video version of photoshop- it allow some truly incredible visual effects and compositing. Final Cut is a non-liner editing system- as in cutting your footage together and mixing sound channels with it. So unless you're doing some really serious vfx work you probably don't need or will not find after effects useful. Final Cut would be necessary anyway as AfterEffects is not a non linear editing system, so the two really aren't very related. Good programs to compare to Final Cut would be Avid, Sony Vegas Pro, or Adobe Premier. (notice Premier is Adobe's version of final cut, not after effects)

Hope I helped!

I currently run Vegas Pro 8. I like it alot, but if you are on a Mac there is no better choice than Final Cut IMO.

I realize my paragraph above may have been a little technical, so put another way-

FinalCut/ Adobe Premier/ Sony Vegas/ Avid- Organizes ORDER and TIMING of Clips and Soundtracks.
AfterEffects- Makes the above clips look stunning and beautiful and add VFX, CGI, Greenscreen.
