Urgh I just saw a mouse in my kitchen, now I have to throw away my food, strip clean everything, put poison down and you NEVER get rid of the little buggers. This is the worst thing to happen this year :(

Get TWO cats. You need two because:

One cat will probably kill the mouse, but if its a "mouser", then it'll catch other mice, bring them in, and maybe they'll escape before being killed. Or maybe the other cat will do this. Or maybe not.

This is why you need the second cat. It catches the left-over mice from the first cat and, if you're lucky, vice versa

If both your cats are or become indolent, incompetent, overfed or infirm, you may need a third cat.

We have four.

They say you are never more than 10 feet away from a rat (which must be worrying if you are in a space suit outside the shuttle.) Have you been dropping dead from plague any more than you were before?

in all likelihood, you have been sharing your abode with the mice for ages, and have only just noticed.
Why panic now?

With all the ingenuity, knowledge, experience and imagination of 4HVers
why not

Build a better mouse trap

Apparently there only just over 4,400 U.S. patents related to mousetraps.

A tesla coil buit into one. This would also solve the food crisis.

^^ sounds smelly.

I support the cat idea, and make sure you put the rodent's head on a stake to set an example for the other mice.

I`d love to have a cat but it seems unfair as I live in a flat. I`ll have to go for a thorough clean, flush any holes with turps and be very careful not to drop any crumbs from now on, the kitchen is pretty clean though, I can`t really understand what attracted it in there.

Yea, if you live in an apartment complex you probably cant get rid of one on your own, you need to alert neighbors (horizontal and vertical) and get group effort going with mouse traps. Get enough down in all your corners and you should be able to mount a decent defense.

and be glad it;s not a bug infestation... when the flour is moving, you know you need to strip EVERYTHING!
it sucks.
