 		Well I need an Oscilloscope. The problem is that I really don't want to spend $300+ on one and I have no idea what the best 'kinds' are.

 		Mine cost £20 from Ebay. One channel has some problems at high frequency, due to a soggy electrolytic, I presume.

What maximun frequency do you need?

 		Mine is two channel, 10 MHz, manufactured in 1975. They go for peanuts these days.

Depends what you want and how much you want to spend.

Some of the new digital ones are pretty cheap, but they tend to need to be plugged into a PC.

The way I see it, if I blow mine up, it's no big deal. I'll just go back to Ebay and get another.

 		I like the ones that plug into the pc personally, quite a bit of functionality and fairly cheap. mine was around $100, only problem I have with it is that it does funny stuff when I operate it right next to a plasma speaker (I blame the super-intense electric field), and it can only handle 20V. I need to fix that.

There are also perks, like screen-shot ability, and exporting data files for plotting in whatever software you like.

 		Mine is a 60s RCA, tube style, 4.5 mhz= crap.

The Tek scopes from the 60s are golden,I would recomend the 100mhtz (or 150??) 465. Under 200, and better than any "computer scope".

Tek stuff is of the best quality, they costed thousands of dollars when new.

Better than any computer scope!? I think not.

I think there are many now, much better and cheaper then the 60's TEK's. As good and still prized as the old ones are.

 		Well, perhaps not as good as thoses 1000 dollar 1ghz scopes, but for a hobbiest, I think they would be the best buy for yuor money.

 		For him, I doubt he'll be doing anything in the megahertz range soon.
If you do go the computer route make sure you can measure decent voltages, preferably a hundred or so.
