Hey y'all, been a while since I have been very active besides lurking (mainly due to school, which just ended yesterday for me).

I thought I might start by asking around what everyone here drinks to wake up in the morning, whether it be coffee, tea, or five hour energy.

I make my own coffee and try something new every time I can. I may have one of those Keurig cup machines, but I also have the reusable filter for it so I make non-ready to brew cups.

Today, for example, I tried a blend I made from Brazilian and Sumatra beans (1:2 respectively) with some mint leaves ground into the mix using a Mortar and Pestle. Not really to my liking, but I keep trying new things every few days/week.

Since that coffee turned out to be a bust, and no one else here to taste it, I made myself the never-failing Cappuccino. I used the standard "cup" from Keurig but will get some beans to make my own espresso soon.

From a day-to-day basis I have my coffee rather Dark, with some sugar or a little creme but not both (depends on the day).

What does everyone else here drink? Be as descriptive as you want, especially if you brew your own blends!

I start my day with a big glass of cold milk. Not because i'm a healthfreak, oh no, i just think it tastes good.

As for coffee... nah. I only drink coffee on friday nights, and then it's usually mixed with substantial amounts of vodka. shades

We used to roast the raw beans at home - 'till there was some speculation that the material from roasting was toxic. It seems so many things that taste good, smell good, etc are in the "no-no" category.

Sumatran is exquisite. A small amount of honey on occasion. I drink tea generally. Usually Asian types like Green in a Jasmine-Pearl design; no milk or other things. Earl Grey & many Indian teas got too common.

+1 for the milk there, something cold wakes me up nicely.
General pop in the afternoons, though less lately since my parents started dieting again tongue
Coffee and energy drinks are for extreme circumstances only (ie, pulling all nighters)

Coffee wise, I seem to have settled on guatemalan coffee, because it tastes most 'serious', all other coffee's I've tried seem to have a hint of something that tastes like ash. During the day at work though I mostly drink plain old water! Pint of water first thing too!

Never tried coffee with vodka! I'm about to try dumping some Sambuca into some coffee though, because I read that could be done to sweeten it and your post above reminded me smile (edit: tried it - sambuca completely dominates the flavour confused )

I'm also a big fan of Whisky (Scotch Whisky) - Favourite at the moment is Glenmorangie, although I have bottles of Legaig (peaty/smokey) Grants and Bushmills (Irish) open at the moment. I always add a small dash of spring water into the Whisky just after pouring it out - not enough to dilute it, it just wakens up the flavour. Decent Whiskys don't give you hangovers! If I've been having beers down the pub I always finish off the night with a Whisky and wake up feeling ok smile

Best things to have with either decent coffee or decent Whisky are dark chocolate, and cigars. Absolutely fantastic!

Coffee with vodka is some wonderfull stuff. Here's a good receipe.: Put a coin in an empty mug, then pour coffee to taste until you cannot see the coin any more. Then add enough vodka to make the coin visible again. Really quite wonderfull stuff for when your tastebuds have become numb from all the bourbon. Rejuvenating to say the least.

Then there's Kossumaito (the receipe calls for Finnish Koskenkorva, but any vodka will do). In short it is vodka and milk (whole milk preferrably). It's an acquired taste, but that's part of the fun. It's also my signature drink.

As for the non alcoholic part... energy drinks, the cheapest brand available, in the morning and/or the evening. Apple juice or milk in between. Sometimes water. Rarely coffee. It's not that I don't like it, just don't feel like brewing any.

It's pretty popular where i live. It's not used as a nice "family-dinner-with-candle-lights-and-soothing- music-drink", its used as a "get-me-hammered-NOW-drink". We call it Karsk, and it consists of plain coffee, black as sin itself, and cheap vodka (or moonshine if your feeling adventurous). It's not particularly good, but it'll get you in a really good mood.

I bet there are more sophisticated versions out there though. tongue

I always drink a cup of black tea with breakfast (current favorite is PG Tips), and then a few cups a green tea throughout the day. I love the flavor of coffee, but I find that if I drink it on a regular basis then I quickly get acclimated to the larger dose of caffeine and it then becomes largely ineffective. I only drink coffee on social occasions or when I need the larger caffeine boost.

Well when your tastebuds are not numb wink I would suggest trying tequila in coffee, that's my preferred liquor/coffee pairing. And not the cheap gold tequilas either, a decent silver or gold tequila that costs a bit more is much better than the cheap stuff.

I drink coffee about every other morning on average, depends if I'm waking up much earlier than other days or if my sleep cycle is way off (which, as an American college student, happens a LOT tongue)

The subject of energy drinks is a little different for me, I will drink them later in the day if I have something to do, but only because I finally found a source of my favorite caffeinated carbonation, Bawls, in case sized quantities at a computer store. It doesn't have anywhere near the caffeine content of any other energy drink, just a little kick later in the day rather than going and using the coffee machine in my room. I tend to just leave one bottle in my backpack in case I need it.

Coffee and Alcohol? Always has been an interesting combination, caffeine and an inebriate (sp?)? (and just a note for those who know my age please do know that in Texas and places I've traveled it's legal), but alas I do not drink alcohol except under special circumstances so I'll go ahead and stop here.

Coffee, hot, lots of sugar smile

I have tried energy drinks, and found they don't do much apart from make me more irritable.
