That's a great idea, I dunno why I never thought of it.
I hope you're careful pulling a vacuum in a glass jar like that though. With over 14 pounds of pressure pushing in on every square inch, an implosion is a violent event that can send shards flying everywhere.

Yeah I did it too when I was younger and I never had one implode, but that's not to say it can't happen.
The closest experience I ever had with an implosion was discarding a worn out 19" CRT. Normally I would break off the exhaust nipple first but I didn't this time. I heaved it towards the dumpster but my hand slipped and it fell just short and the bell of the tube came down right on the lid hinge. I spun around as I saw this occurring and there was a deafening boom and the spray of glass shards covered a 10 foot radius. One of my ears was ringing for hours after that and to this day I have no idea how none of the shards hit me since they landed all around me on the ground.
