That reminds me. Mercedes recently did a presentation on one of their sedans and it was driven into a high voltage laboratory and struck repeatedly with a Marx impulse generator for some photoshoots. I came across it perhaps a month ago and there were some video clips of it floating around (in German)

Yeah, it probably ruined the paint, and the ECU.

Ahh, the one I saw was different. I recall that one as well but this was in an actual high voltage lab test bay.

I found it. It was done on the CLK...I can't understand German so if anyone can translate the videos...

Also found an article stating the purpose of that test. Soft top lightning protection:

Might have ruined the paint for sure.
But I'd say the fact the car started up straight away is a good sign the ECU was intact tongue

Kind of makes you think twice about those HERF gadgets they tried to make for disabling cars. :-/

And it seems that current he was hit by wasn't quite high, note the very thin wire that was used as electrode didn't burn out nor showed some special heating.

I think that 500 megajoules discharging few centimeters above your head would be quite a bit more intense experience. Or maybe tangling into 440kV distribution grid.

Cars are really well protected by their ferromagnetic armor and they can hardly be affected by even powerful magnetic fields.

Few instruments may go nuts while arc is active and that's it.

PS. Steve, your avatar is scaring me cheesey
