Those are "feed through" caps. They decouple any RF from feeding back into the power supply.

Thanks :)
are their values really essential to the circuit, or could I jury rig something and have it still work?
I hate ordering things :P

No, not critical at all. They are probably .001uf but anything from .001 to .01 would probably work just fine. They are feed through caps because the RF section is a separate assembly which is connected to the power supply via a multi-conductor cable. You won't need feed through caps if you mount all the components on one chassis. Just make sure that you use good layout and grounding techniques. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, then you have a lot of learning to do! wink

Crystal Clear cheesey

I figured they weren't that important, but I wanted to check. With something this simple noise prevention issues are usually unnecessary.

Since this schem is so old i take it some of the parts can be replaced with more "modern" parts, correct?

the only thing on there thats really outdated is the pentode, if you felt adventurous you could replace it, but it's probably easiest to just use one.
as for everything else, just make sure that the values are the same and the voltage ratings are high enough.
the SI units have changed some, google for sites on replacing the capacitors in old radios and they should explain it. I had a good one once but i can't seem to find it...
just google replacing antique radio caps, the units is all you're worried about anyway..,
