If even the world's smartest scientists have no idea what they are talking about, what is the point of us discussing it?
The point is, that that's what we humans do. We discuss things that we don't understand, and we try to "guess" how the universe works when we don't have definitive proof. Unfortunately, we sometimes resort to strong words, or even violence, when other people don't believe the same as we do. Very sad, indeed.
Anyhow, I believe that the universe works in ways that we will never understand because it is beyond our ability to understand it. We have been given a limited capacity to understand our physical world by God (or by whomever or whatever you want to call him/her/it), and that is all that he/she/it will allow, whether we like it or not.

That is an interesting philosophy, and one that I feel a little sympathy with. If you believe in some God who created the universe (and why not- it's hardly any more crazy than this talk of photon-boson plasmas and so on) then to understand the mysteries of the universe you must know the mind of its creator, which means becoming identical with the creator. The question is then whether it is possible for some little lump of the creation to do that.
A dour Calvinist type would say no way, a more new-agey practitioner would say that that is exactly what happened to Buddha under the Bo tree, or Einstein in his fifties.
