Hi all.
Just found a 300W electric bike motor which doesen't work.
I noticed that although the active circuitry is encased in resin the Hall sensors are mounted to a PCB and the wiring is accessible.
Reckon its possible to attach wires to this and drive it from a spare working controller? Seems a shame to discard a perfectly good core and magnet assembly just because the potted driver is fried.
Already confirmed that the sensors are correctly powered, the only possible cause I can think of is that the driver IC has blown.

Can you get to the wires from the coils? Does it spin freely? Turning it slowly, and using a compass, can you determine how may pairs of poles the magnets have? If you can intercept the coil wires, spin the shaft, measure the voltage, then see what value resistor effects dynamic braking when switching. try on each coil set.

Potting is not impregnable. I routinely repair potted HeNe laser power supplies using a heat gun and various pointy tools to remove the epoxy resin from the area of the problem.
