I'm not surprised. I played with about half a dozen different PCB packages, ranging in cost from free to over $10k and settled on KiCAD. I found that ALL the CAD packages I tried were buggy and quirky, so I settled on the free one and kept at it until I was proficient and could work around the quirks. Very few complaints since then.

just had a look at this thread, I can't believe you built that crazy transformer without it arcing over cheesey

Great work, last transformer I rewound (for a valve amp) broke down 5 minutes after first power on!

Hi Avalanche,

I think his transformer is very much like those old, disc-shaped flybacks which were actually constructed pretty much the same way, giving only few kV out and had to be multiplied to drive a TV tube... Those had no real potting and were just a bunch of tape and wire and worked pretty well because of generous insulation and low voltage stand-off.

Blender might get good enough for CAD work sooner then later :)
I'm also an open source fan, that's all I use for the most part.

I've played around with Blender for a while. It's a wonderul tool for creating 3D animations, but I can't see how it could ever be used for CAD.

I'm an open source fan too because it's FREE!!! tongue
There is a project for Blender that's hoping to get it to be a usable form of CAD :)
I use it for the art side of things...
