It's not THAT specific part, but the circuit that's inside of it. The zener diode could be changed around with whatever voltage it is you need, and it would work for a small spark gap replacement for solid state telsa coils. It would run the same as a SGTC though.
Just curious if this would work not, among other uses it may have; I.E. Machine gun type coilgun (obviously needs to charge fast) lowish voltage multiplier, (would need DC input, as opposed to AC for a CW),
Plus the SCR can be changed out for whatever it is you need.
Sound like a good idea, or is this full of fail and pain?

The idea that you are presenting is basically an OLTC. The SCR in the part you posted would probably be too slow and weak in terms of peak current rating for this application.

I just meant the circuit WITHIN it, as an example of it. Not the parts used for it.

The problem is that the circuit uses a resistive current limiting and triggers before the cap voltage reaches mains peak voltage. In an OLTC, the resistor would dissipate huge amounts of heat so you replace it with a charging choke. The result of this is doubled voltage on the resonant cap and the switching device must turn on after the resonant cap charges to its maximum voltage, not before. Also, the circuit is ok when used with a SCR which turns on and stays on until the current drops back to zero, but SCR's are usually way too slow for an OLTC so we use IGBTs. They do not stay turned on like an SCR so we need a different circuit to drive them.
However a somewhat related concept is the SISG - but this again uses IGBTs.

The circuit in there functions as an OLTC as Dr. Kilovolt and it also is designed to drive SCRs (which is easy). You'd have to switch out the entire dotted box with other stuff, and then it would be exactly like an OLTC.
