Usually if one wants a sstc to accurately reproduce an audio input, they would use something like a CD4046 or TL494. But how about using the 74HC14 you already have in the mini sstc to vary the duty cycle?

Here is the circuit i had in mind: Link2

So, how well do you think this would work? If the resonant frequency changed too much during operation, the duty cycle would not be accurate in relation to the audio input. Also, would it be best if you used 50% duty cycle max? That would be easy, just use 0-2.5v audio source, and add one more inverter in series with the output of that circuit to inverter the duty cycle. I don't think it will work, at least not well, because of the awful waveform the audio is adding offset to, if it was a triangle like this Link2 it would be better. If it works, won't it have uber distortion?

I know that using an inverter in this way for PWM works in practice, i often use 2 inverters for a variable frequency and duty cycle oscillator. I don't know what would keep it from working in a sstc, other than terrible distortion. If there is a way to reduce the distortion, maybe it would be a viable option for audio mod.

I guess the only way to know if it worked well is to build it, so i will make a small half bridge sstc to test it, if you guys think it has any chance of working. Any opinions welcome.

How is that link relevant? I know how to make an audio sstc Link2 . I just think it would be neat to use the schematic i had in mind because of the fact that i have no 4046's... Well, i do have a few TL494's, but the main point of this simple schematic is just that. Simplicity.

I know there are many people on this forum who haven't much experience that might find this circuit useful. A PLL can be confusing, and so can the TL494, to someone who does not know how to use ICs according to the datasheet, but a 74hc14 is simple... Just a bunch of simple inverters, and adding a cap and a resistor would not be too confusing. It's theory of operation may not be as easy to understand as the schematic, but i started out building circuits which i had no idea as to how they worked. All i knew was that if you connected the pins right the circuit would do things and stuff would happen cheesey
